A Couple of Short Pieces (GQ)

Jeff Vrabel

lebron-james-gq-cover-march-01GQ — Because they’ve obviously never seen what I dress like, I’ve got a few short pieces in the new „print magazine version” of  GQ . (Not about LeBron. Or Kate Mara, regrettably.) Check out „ The 10 Habits of Highly Unflabby People ” (page 102) and „How to Work (No, Really) From Your Living Room” (page 140). (I am also the model for all of the Prada ads.)

st. david’s day.

. . .

Saturday, March 1st, was St. David’s Day, the feast day of St. David, the patron saint of Wales.  My pal Illtyd has joked every year that he’s the one-man Welsh parade down 5th Avenue – everyone else gets a national parade, c’mon!.  This year we decided to capture him, the Welsh flag, and a handful of leeks properly in the act, so we staged a mini-shoot down in Cooper Square, further south in Manhattan than where parades usually take place.

Illt was up for just about anything.  And the random Japanese tourists standing near where we were shooting, who asked for directions  – they seemed pretty game, too, when I asked if they’d mind helping us out with our shoot.  A magnificent afternoon, if I do say so myself, even if it was just the lone Welshman, yours…

And now for something completely different…

Fujifilm Corporate Blog

Fujifilm UK has just officially announced the launch of its new Fujifillm X Signature customisation service.

Users of Fujifilm X cameras can now choose to have their camera re-skinned to one of many different colours and textures by a trained Fujifilm techhnician.

Orders can be placed at Fujifilm’s X Signature website and there is a 2 week turnaround on orders. The process involves sending your camera to Fujifilm in pre-paid packaging that will be sent to you. This will not affect your warranty as the service is carried out by Fujifilm’s Service Centre, and you will have the added benefit of a free check and clean of your product. It’ll be returned in an X Signature box with your chosen skin applied.

This service is also available on new cameras. The cost is £129.99 to re-skin your existing camera, or £99.99 if you order a new camera in an X Signature…

lazy sunday walkabout. (with film!)

hong-an tran

. . .

It was a sunny but brisk Sunday, just the wee-est bits of spring poking around.  Olivia, Nick, and I wandered around the East Village, down along the edge of  NYU and Soho, and finally to the Lower East Side, with our cameras in tow.  Though I have, since entering the digital world, shot with film, it was for a client, and not for my own edification.  So, feeling like I needed to reconnect with analog, I brought long-neglected Leica M6 with me.  Nick offered up a roll of expired Kodak Ektar 100 – by far my favorite film stock – and voila!, some gorgeous, wonderfully saturated shots.

Here was our afternoon, from start to finish.  Only one of these photos – the ‘Open House’ storefront shot – was edited in Lightroom for contrast, to counteract the late afternoon haze.  Otherwise, all of these photos are as-is.  A…
